Matthew 10:29 "Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father"
Tears of The Sparrow
“That the wanderings of man’s heart should stumble upon truth is the greatest of joys to behold. For then his life shall start anew when that same truth turns metal into gold….”
I am a nature lover at heart and I oftentimes will look at an animal and wonder what it is thinking. It’s an odd notion, really. But I do believe and I am convinced that if a sparrow should have a message for mankind it would be-do not worry. The bible illustrates this perfectly when our attention is brought to the fact that neither does the bird gather or store his food-and yet our Father in Heaven feeds him. We don’t see ravens having a panic attack at the onset of a storm. We don’t witness finches having to breathe into paper bags when we have an early frost. So, why is it that we worry as we do? Is it because we are untrusting of the very nature of our existence? Or could it be that we fail to recognize our true worth?
If we could know the heart of God….if we could somehow look back into the distant past and eavesdrop on the moment of creation, the moment of the Big Bang when God said Let there be Light…perhaps it would be easier to comprehend what we mean to God. But we can’t. The best possibility to catch a glimpse into the mind and heart of God in that very moment is to look within ourselves. We are, afterall created in the image of God. This means that we have inherited certain qualities that belong to Him. Think about our ability to create in this world. That is God’s Image in us. We are able to think and feel and decide and create any and every conceivable thing we imagine.
When we are at our most creative there is a spark of divinity that gives life to our vision. And what we create from our hearts, aren’t we in love with? That is the sole principality behind the appreciation of the arts. To see the divinity that is within us take shape in the material world in the form of the beauty which we imagine. Writers, artists, poets, singers and songwriters tap into this stream of divinity within themselves to bring life to some of the most breathtaking works of art that have been birthed into existence. And so does each and every one of us.
God is aware of the things that we create. He knows what is in our hearts and He has given us the power to influence the entirety of mankind on every level beginning with our thoughts-because it is in our thoughts that creativity is engaged. I believe that we each should spend some time out in nature. Go for a walk by the river or a swim in the ocean. Sit on a fallen tree in the forest for a time and look around you. As you are caught up in the beauty and presence of everything that surrounds you-realize that it is in this place that we stand in admiration of God’s Art, of God’s Creativity as we find ourselves immersed in the Heart of God.
The presence of His divine artistry is woven into the tapestry of each and every living thing on the earth and beyond. When you look into the face of your child, it is God’s reflection looking back at you. When you catch the eye of a stranger-you are looking at yourself from a distance because in the same moment that God created Adam and loved and cherished him so, that love by its very nature permeated the folds of time into which you were born. God’s face is reflected in every person, every animal, every plant. It is carried on every breeze, every wave and every drop of rain. It is all encompassing. It remains unchanged. We are the totality of the love that God holds within His heart and we must see ourselves and one another for the cherished creations that we are. Because that is the only way that we will ever truly discover what it is to be the manifestation of the vision and the heart of God.
As for the tears of the sparrow? They fall for the ignorance of mankind when we run from grace and hide from redemption. They exist to mark the sadness that falls onto the canvas of creation each time one of us fails to remember how cherished we are by our creator and how very lovingly and perfectly we were created each and every one of us in His image.
